Radiographic Assessment and Prognosis in Patients with Impacted Maxillary Canines

Impaction refers to a pathological condition defined as a lack of space for tooth eruption within normal physiological and chronological limits.

Regarding the causes of maxillary canine impaction, two primary theories are recognized in orthodontic literature: the maxillary lateral incisor guidance theory and the genetic theory.

The aim of this study is to determine, through radiographic assessment, the position of maxillary canines using radiographic imaging (RTG), in order to establish an accurate diagnosis and an appropriate treatment plan.

To fulfill the objectives of the study, a total of 30 patients of both genders from the Dental Clinic “VIVADENT” were examined.

Determining the position of maxillary canines is very important in defining the method of orthodontic-surgical or surgical-orthodontic treatment, as well as in determining the prognosis of therapy.
